The European Wine Blogging Conference is starting to fall into place. We’re currently talking to sponsors, developing schedules and attempting to gather our many ideas of what this conference should be about into one cohesive plan. However, we need your input! We ask that you join in the conversation to help us make this conference something that we all can take ownership of, rather than a chosen few. That said, today, we’ll outline part of the conference, which all also happens to be one of the most exciting segments for any wine blogger.
The Keynote Tasting
The idea behind this section is to acknowledge that we are all wine lovers at heart. This is presumably why we are blogging about wine, no? Hence, because wine is the core of our existence – a rather lofty idea, but let’s run with it – why not make it the star of the show! But being the challenging wine lovers we are, we intend to take this concept a step further by devising a tasting that is both unique and sparks the debate about what we do as wine bloggers. Therefore, the tasting will be comprised of two parts: a small group activity aimed to challenge the way in which we taste wine, as well as an open tasting for you to explore some of the best Spanish and Portuguese wine at your own leisurely pace and in your own style.
In regards to the wines, due to our location in the heart of Iberia, the Keynote Tasting will consist of various, high quality wines from across Spain and Portugal. How are we deciding which wines should be included? Using many points of reference, we’ll be devising a list of wineries that we feel represent a diverse and high quality selection of Iberian wines to be requested for the tasting. At the end of the tasting, we will join together to analyze the results of the group activity, as well as the conference as a whole. It is our intention to create a conference for which all participants can enjoy and learn, and at the very least, form new friendships that will last well into the future.
Stay tuned as we lay out more details for each theme of the conference in the coming days!
Cheers,
Ryan and Gabriella Opaz
