p10009901What is your profession?

Wine producer. My family has a vineyard just north of Melbourne in Australia. 450 m altitude so cool climate wines. I am a Master of Wine student, based in Paris while studying for exams. Champange and Burgundy are my special regions and wines..

Why is wine blogging relevant to you?

It is important for the future of communication evidenced by many successful print journalists hosting blogs. Fast and relevant communication where there are many voices, not dominated by a few opinions. Other industries have recognised this and realise the relevance and importance of blogging. Eg fashion bloggers have been rewarded for their influence by invitations to ready to wear and haut courture fashion parades. Wine is no different.

What is the main difference between print and wine blogging?

Speed of information, response, current

Are wineries, retailers, importers, etc. open to blogs in your culture?

Australia is a relatively small wine market and imported wines are expensive, and usually only top of the range. The domestic market is important and blogging should be integral. Wine tourism is very important in Australia and blogging should encourage, interest and reinforce loyalty.

As a non-blogger, at the moment, how important do you think wine blogging is today?

More important than other media for a free source of wine information, and entry for new and independent writers. Publications - glossy or newspaper and annual books have to be ready to publish so long before the information will be released - requires secrecy and patience, and probably some fear the information may be released anyway before it is published. However, subscription magazine and newspaper articles are often available free on line, and if not, their daily newsletters and updates are an important communication tool for constant contact with consumers and trade.

Where do you see wine blogging in 10 years time?

I imagine it will continue to be a greater source of finding and sharing information. It may also be historic and outdated istself - who knows what we will be communicating then.

What do you hope to gain from attending the conference?

I need to learn much more about how blogs work in every way. The networks especially between bloggers and the information network, as well as how I can find more information, and of course inspiration to start my own.

Do you read wine blogs (if so, can you give us a few of your favorites)?

Yes, but most happened by accident through links until I realized that there are so many and so many that are great. I need to discover more.
