AlgarveBuzz started as a way for us to share our personal experience of living in the Algarve with family, friends and clients. Given wine is such a focal point of Portuguese culture, along with the vast selection available, not to mention our excitement about great wine. Our blog, naturally evolved to include and share our experience with Portuguese wine.

In May 2006, during Vinoble, I decided to have a go. The spur was the lack of anything in the bloggosphere devoted only to Sherry.

When, where and why did you begin blogging?
I began Vino Pigro in May, 2006. Why? ’cause I love to write, and over all, I love to write about people and history, as well as facts regarding the world of wine.
In a few short sentences, summarize your intention with your wine blog.
With my wine blog, I don’t only try to give information, but also reflect, and to make others reflect, on the world of wine. I try to help people make culture about wine, and to exercise their own critical spirit better: this can only be possible only if people have more information.

ExcelWines.com is an online shop selling Spanish wine from all over Spain. The company was started in late 2006 by Sandy Tay and Anna Axen, with Ane Miren Lambe joining about 9 months later. We are based outside Bilbao, northern Spain, and our market is primarily within Europe, particularly the UK, Holland, Sweden and, of course, Spain itself. We focus on quality wines, mostly from smaller producers, and our customers are generally fairly knowledgeable about wine and, more specifically, Spanish wine.

My blog is somewhere between a normal blog and a corporate blog. By the way, my primary intention with my blog is to inform people about what they can do with internet in the wine & food business.

We have always intended this inaugural European Wine Bloggers’ Conference to be different, setting a new standard for conferences, particularly in the wine world.
When we thought about how we would discuss the key issues, we had to find a way to allow as much interaction as possible, yet give all those who wanted it a chance to put forward their take on the subjects. After all, as bloggers we are used to thinking, writing and sharing, rather than simply sitting back and absorbing. This is the 2.0 world, don’t you know!?
The standard conference model involves inviting key speakers, putting them on a stage, listening to pre-prepared presentations (usually for the first time), then hopefully squeezing in a little audience participation at the very end in the form of questions. A wasted opportunity!

Editor’s Note: As we had mentioned in the past, we are very interested in learning about each and every participant at the conference. We’re fascinated as to what your current projects are, where you are coming from and why a conference like the European Wine Blogger Conference interests you. This said, we’d like to welcome Andre Ribeirinho from Lisbon, Portugal, our first brave soul to share a little about himself with us.
When Ryan announced the idea of making a Wine Blogger Conference, I was thrilled. Going to the lovely region of La Rioja in August for 3 days of conversations around wine and technology, what can be better?

The good news just keeps rolling into the EWBC headquarters. Right off the press, Wines of Spain has recently published an article on the conference, emphasizing our common desire to not only learn how to better collaborate, but also gain the respect and the attention of the wine trade. What makes this news so fantastic is that Wines of Spain is a government run agency whose audience is comprised primarily of Spanish wineries, retailers, importers and exporters. By having our conference highlighted on their site, means that wine bloggers are attracting the attention of exactly some of the people we’re striving to reach! Do you know anyone in your region/country that might be interested in our conference?

One of the things we hope to do with the conference is to get to know each other better. There are a lot of wine bloggers out there with very different backgrounds, expertise and interests and by learning more about other bloggers we hope to find more areas of common interest, beyond wine of course, where we might find ways to work together.
Over the next few weeks, we will be inviting those wine bloggers who have confirmed their attendance at the 2008 European Wine Bloggers Conference to come onto this site and present a brief profile of themselves and their blogs. This profile could be in the form of a written post, a video, audio, or even a drawing for the more creative types and depending on the particular blogger. All this material will form part of the content legacy of the conference that others might find useful.
