“What are the tools we have to work with and what are ways to better drive traffic to our sites?”

This topic could last the whole day, but the idea would be to pick a few key bloggers, or maybe invite a key person, to discuss some of the general points that would affect all of us: searchability, optimisation, best platforms, key tools & widgets, etc.

There has to be a discussion on technology and the idea would be to start the conference to share some best practice and learn how to tweak or sites.

Any thoughts on what topics to include, and who might lead such a discussion? Any volunteers?

Robert,

I’ll volunteer to collect ideas and lead the discussion. My background (and day job) is technology, but I promise to focus into what will make wine blogging better and not the how-to behind the scenes :-)

Yaron.

Many thanks. Let’s first get some ideas on what we can and should cover, and maybe then how we might structure the session so we can decide on how it needs to be lead.

Could you maybe post some ideas on this here for discussion as I imagine the techie topic will attract lots of ideas?

A couple of ideas:

1. Talk about the different blogging hosting sites (Blogger, Typepad, MySpace blogs, etc). Basic functionality, differences, widgets and ease of integration with other technologies (technocrati for example)
2. Sites for promoting your site: feedburner, tecnocrati, user rating and tagging etc
3. Widgets: Survey the most important widgets our there
4. Do it your self: a bit into HTML and how to do some simple editing to improve your blog
5. Drill into more advanced stuff: What about creating your own tasting notes database?

Monetization is covered in another discussion, so we should not repeat it here.

Great, many thanks for this. I have my own views but maybe others can take a view on these topics before I jump in?

I’d say at this point that we have around an hour and we want to make this as interactive as possible, so the more focused we can be on this the better, remembering that we are dealing with a wide variety of skills and experience.

Anyone else have any thoughts?
